Mercator Set designed by Arthur Baker, USA
Gerardus Mercator was born in the Netherlands in 1512. His name has become synonymous with the Mercator map projection scheme where our globe is represented as a flat image creating some distortion in the Northern and Southern extremities. It ultimately presents a map of the world with great clarity. As a man of the Renaissance, Mercator also had an interest in such subjects as calligraphy.
Contemporary American calligrapher Arthur Baker has studied the penmanship of Mercator and has created this font based on the lettering used on Mercator’s famous world map.
The Mercator set includes alternate Swashes which can be used for specific letters when a more elaborate lettering effect is desired.
Mercator is licensed for release through P22 type foundry Inc./International House of Fonts.
